This April, we ran a poetry contest to celebrate National Poetry Month. We challenged you, our readers, to craft a poem using only the words that appeared in one of our newsletters (here are the original contest guidelines if you want to give it a try).

Turns out, you’re all poets and we didn’t even know it. We were beyond thrilled to read the original, creative, and awe-inspiring poems Fort Worthians created from our newsletter copy. Check out the poems below, including the contest winner our readers voted for.

Winner: “Blessings of the Sun” by Debi Thompson

The obstacles of the day can appear sadly simple.

Your rich, historic process is free of narratives of chance, made possible by original glory.

Pathways are your own concept, a projection of the heart.

You can restore, mix, craft, and explore what you enjoy, just show what else you can honor.

Free your fire.
Open to an immersive celebration and construction.

Make the theater of sunrise your holiday.

Keep your face to the sun,
You are happy.

Finalist: “Iconic Cowtown” by Daneen Rejcek

Mostly sunny is the long-awaited forecast today,
Featured events to celebrate the holiday,
Yoga and Cocktails, Cars and Coffee,
Contests including you and your doggie,
Bearded Lady and sister will offer beer,
The Tropic Lady will open later this year,
Bike sharing and skateboarding, explore the city on wheels,
Springtime, and vacation, we love hotel deals,
The Newsletter includes the fun stuff found,
Mix and match how you please in iconic Cowtown.

Finalist: “The Scoop” by Brent Thompson

Calling all cool customers
Down for gusto and fun:

Fort Worth is the trippy Casablanca,
A soup of dumplings and cinema and sun!

We’ve created a community:
Enchiladas and movement restore
Mind-bending theater, music, and more.

Sip whiskey and mocktails highlight,
Kick back with a skyline relight,
Furry friends to food trucks, all right!

Flowers in a Garden;
Food in a Stockyard.
Skateboard in a plaza.
Make Cowtown your own.
