After a clever social media post teasing the highly anticipated reopening, the Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater is set to open Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
After 18 months of renovations, the new theater is replacing the former IMAX theater that opened in 1983 and will be the world’s largest LED dome of its kind located in a museum. Yes, you read that right — largest in the world.
What’s new?
The new Omni Theater, powered by COSM technology, is combining a 23-meter, 8K resolution LED dome with a massive array of immersive content for visitors. Its digital display offers unmatched brightness, has pushed Fort Worth to the forefront of visual technology, and will transform how the DFW community can present science, history, and the arts. Not only will the theater be able to screen educational films, but it will host multi-video presentations, events, product launches, fundraisers, and more.
In addition to its theatrical renovations, the museum renovations also include updates to the lobby, bathrooms, and an expanded entryway to avoid congestion.
See for yourself
Tickets are available online, starting at $10 for museum members + $12.50 for non-members. Check out opening films like “Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope,” “Cities of the Future,” “Animal Kingdom” + more.
The theater also has the capacity to convert its old films so that long-time theatergoers can soon enjoy the features they loved years ago.
