This Fort Worth-area museum was just named “Best New Museum” in the US

Located in Arlington, the National Medal of Honor Museum outranked other museums in DC, Chicago, and Kansas City.

The National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation (NMOHMF) in Arlington opened to the public on last year on National Medal of Honor Day. The Medal of Honor is awarded by the President of the United States to those who demonstrate great valor and sacrifice serving in the Armed Forces. It is the highest military decoration given to those who serve in combat.

About the museum

Of the 40 million Americans who have served in the US Armed Forces, only 4,000 have been awarded the prestigious medal, and only 61 recipients are alive today. The NMOHMF allows visitors to learn about 3,520+ Medal of Honor recipients, including William Kyle Carpenter of the US Marine Corps and Webster Anderson of the US Army.

The museum — which sits on five acres — was designed by the late architect Rafael Viñoly. Visitors can explore the 25,000 sqft of exhibits, including interactive galleries, pictures and artifacts, letters from home, and more. Guests can even virtually interview recipients or participate in a virtual reality experience that takes you on a critical medical mission.

Voted No. 1

This year, the National Medal of Honor Museum was voted No. 1 Best New Museum in USA Today’s 2026 Reader’s Choice Awards, rounding off a historic year for the foundation. Nominations were hand-picked by a panel of experts, then voted on by the public.

Board of Directors Chair Charlotte Jones says that since its opening in March 2025, “tens of thousands of visitors have walked through the doors and left inspired by what they’ve seen.” She hinted that 2026 will be even greater with more engaging programming.
