Cook Children’s Health System is broadening its footprint in the Medical District with a new 700,000-sqft tower.

The expansion kicks off a 10-year master plan to add another one million sqft to the system’s 2.5 million-sqft flagship location. It aims to increase capacity, which is currently close to full and prompts the hospital to send patients to other cities for care.

Located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Cooper Street, the new West Tower will add:

  • 37 beds to the neonatal intensive care unit
  • An expanded and redesigned pediatric intensive care unit with 56 private rooms
  • Space for hematology and oncology services and research
  • More operating rooms
  • Expanded imaging services
  • 160,000 sqft of shell space that can be adapted for future growth

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, construction is expected to start at the end of 2025.
