You’ve likely heard of Humans of New York. Now, meet Fort Worth People.

We grabbed coffee with the photographer behind the fast-growing Instagram account to talk passion, purpose, and what he loves most about Cowtown. And when we say “fast-growing,” we mean it. From the time this interview took place to the time we published 12 days later, Fort Worth People had gained 5,000+ new followers.

So, let’s meet the man behind the lens. Editor’s note: Answers have been edited for brevity.

Meet Ontario Mireles

Q: How long have you been a photographer? Is this your full-time job?
A: It’s my full-time job. I’ve been doing it for about 8-10 years. I started by doing club photography, but the lifestyle wasn’t for me. Since then, I’ve shot for Tony Robbins, TX Whiskey, and Fort Worth Fashion Week.

Q: What made you want to start Fort Worth People?
A: I thought of this idea long before Instagram was what it is today. I made this account 11 years ago, but didn’t start posting until last November.

Q: What’s your favorite part about this gig?
A: Just talking to people, making them smile, having a good conversation, and learning about people’s stories. For example, that one guy I photographed with the face tattoos — I’d like to get coffee with him sometime and get to know his background.

Q: What goals do you have for this account?
A: I like art. Drawing and painting are new to me, though. One day, I’d like to create apparel, like hats and T-shirts with my own art on them for “Fort Worth People.” (Peep the hat below)

Mireles’ most popular Reel has earned nearly 200,000 views. He says he wants to break into the Meta Creator program, so help him out by giving him a follow.

Ontario wants to feature you

For a chance at being featured on Fort Worth People, Mireles says his everyday hangout spots are downtown Fort Worth, South Main, and the Stockyards. He says that people who really embody the heart and soul of Cowtown catch his attention the most, so don’t be afraid to dress the part. Think: A tall cowboy hat, leather boots, and a Texas-sized belt buckle.

Just look for the guy with a Sony A9 and Meta sunglasses.
