Fort Worth restaurants you miss the most

FTWtoday readers shared which local restaurants + meals they miss the most — and we think you’ll agree.

FTW Cannon Chinese Kitchen Restaurants Readers Miss

One thing’s for sure — the delicious dishes at Cannon Chinese Kitchen are missed by many locals. | Photo via @tasteoffortworth

A couple of weeks ago, we asked: Which Fort Worth restaurant do you miss the most + which meal do you wish were still around?

Piece of cake, right? FTWtoday readers sent us food for thought — let’s stroll down memory lane, because we love a moment of local nostalgia.

Cannon Chinese Kitchen
Readers had much to say about Cannon Chinese Kitchen, the family-operated restaurant on Cannon Street that sought to bring a traditional Chinese dining experience to Cowtown through family recipes.

Sabrina G. remembers the delicious dumplings and fun vibes at the bar, and Bailey M. craves the Char Su Bao on the regular. Haiden R. loved the duck fried rice and added, “I tear up knowing I’ll probably never have it again.” Rob P. dubbed it the “best Chinese food in Fort Worth.”

Caro’s Mexican Restaurant
Oh, the puffy tacos. Reader Kathy T. misses the signature dish — plus the nachos, enchiladas, and “amazing service” — at the Bluebonnet Circle location. We heard some love for Caro’s on Instagram, too.

The interior dining room at Taverna, a Fort Worth restaurant that's now closed. The small, round tables are draped with tablecloths featuring earth-tone patterns and colors; you can see the open window into the kitchen and chalkboards with daily specials hung above the window.

Oh how we miss you, Taverna on Throckmorton Street.

Taverna
Like City Editor Kate, Bobbie J. used to love having celebration dinners at this Italian restaurant — and don’t even get them started on the risotto. This was reader Denise R.'s go-to downtown spot and Shelli L.'s happy hour hangout for wine + pizza. Luckily, Taverna still has locations in Dallas, Plano, and Austin.

McKinley’s Bakery
For readers Liz S. + @seiderjps, this one rises to the top. Liz S. said this was a “great spot for lunch and dessert.” We sure miss those salads, too.

Funky Picnic Brewery & Cafe
Reader David R. touted this brewpub for its “comfortable atmosphere, fun daily activities, and excellent food.” Rachel L. said Funky Picnic had the “best pizza crust and great beer” and Susan K. loved the brews, too.

Billy Miner’s
Oh the memories, Fort Worth. Jenifer G. said the Sundance Square spot was great for beer and burgers. Amy L. misses the great service and fun people-watching.

Funky Picnic was a real vibe.

Bird Cafe
FTWtoday Instagram followers @_ajmoves_, @sara.murrell, @michalthegirl shouted out the Sundance Square favorite. Reader Terre G. said this spot had a great location in an incredible building and the best brunch. The cafe enjoyed seven years in business but shuttered in May 2020 amid the hardships of the pandemic.

Hubba Hubba’s
This 1950s-themed eatery was the place of many family celebrations for reader Natalie B. She remembers everything from “Elvis singing in the bar, to the salad bar in the old ‘57 Chevy, to the jukeboxes at every table,” and the extra cherries in the Shirley Temples, of course.

Dos Gringos
Reader Lanie P. remembers the fun cantina on University Drive as “a little hole in the wall” with simple Mexican food and good service. Marmi L. misses the chips with chili seasoning that were “so good and served warm.”

Y’all understood the assignment.
