🥪 Side of local nostalgia, anyone?

Fort Worth restaurants you miss the most

FTW Cannon Chinese Kitchen Restaurants Readers Miss
One thing’s for sure — the delicious dishes at Cannon Chinese Kitchen are missed by many locals. | Photo via @tasteoffortworth | Photo via @tasteoffortworth
A couple of weeks ago, we asked: Which Fort Worth restaurant do you miss the most?

Piece of cake, right? FTWtoday readers sent us food for thought — let’s stroll down memory lane, because we love a moment of local nostalgia.

Cannon Chinese Kitchen
Readers had much to say about Cannon Chinese Kitchen, the family-operated restaurant that sought to bring a traditional Chinese dining experience to Cowtown through family recipes. Sabrina G. remembers the delicious dumplings and fun vibes at the bar, and Bailey M. craves the Char Su Bao on the regular. Haiden R. loved the duck fried rice and added, “I tear up knowing I’ll probably never have it again.” Rob P. dubbed it the “best Chinese food in Fort Worth.”

Caro’s Mexican Restaurant
Oh, the puffy tacos. Reader Kathy T. misses the signature dish — plus the nachos, enchiladas, and “amazing service” — at the Bluebonnet Circle location. We heard some love for Caro’s on Instagram, too.

The interior dining room at Taverna, a Fort Worth restaurant that's now closed. The small, round tables are draped with tablecloths featuring earth-tone patterns and colors; you can see the open window into the kitchen and chalkboards with daily specials hung above the window.

Oh how we miss you, Taverna on Throckmorton Street.

Taverna
Like City Editor Kate, Bobbie J. used to love having celebration dinners at this Italian restaurant — and don’t even get them started on the risotto. This was reader Denise R.'s go-to downtown spot and Shelli L.'s happy hour hangout for wine + pizza. Luckily, Taverna still has locations in Dallas, Plano, and Austin.

McKinley’s Bakery
For readers Liz S. + @seiderjps, this one rises to the top. Liz S. said this was a “great spot for lunch and dessert.” We sure miss those salads, too.

McKinley’s — come back to us.

Bird Cafe
FTWtoday Instagram followers @_ajmoves_, @sara.murrell, @michalthegirl shouted out the Sundance Square favorite. Reader Terre G. said this spot had a great location in an incredible building and the best brunch. The cafe enjoyed seven years in business but shuttered in May 2020 amid the hardships of the pandemic.

Y’all understood the assignment.

Have the travel bug but no funds to satisfy it? A Southlake development could scratch that itch.

Carillon Parc, a 42-acre mixed-use community inspired by old-world architecture, is currently in the works.

    Upon completion

Here’s what to expect from the development in its entirety:
    • Six districts connected via walkable paths and plazas: The Piazza, The Boulevard, The Terrace, The Grand Hotel & Wellness, and The Parc
    • 50+ condo units
    • 79 single-family homes
    • A 259-room hotel with an attached wedding chapel
    • Over eight acres of public park space
    • 200,000+ sqft of retail and dining space
    • Details like oversized sidewalks, cobblestone, and bell towers

    Construction progress

D Magazine reported that since breaking ground, Carillon Parc has put in utilities and roads and prepped 16 acres for single family residential development + phase one of commercial development.

Next up are plans to build upwards for the commercial side, slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
