Perfect spots to dine + dash dish

Let’s chat: Quiet restaurants for intimate conversation

We recently asked our readers where they like to go for drinks or food around Fort Worth when they’re craving quiet conversation.

You know the type: quiet restaurants with the tables separated, bars with nary a TV in sight, or corner cafes that play soft jazz on low volume. Here are the spots readers and editors recommend.

Charming + laid back

  • Nish! Mediterranean Grill | Come for the conversation, stay for the delicious Mediterranean food. Recommended by reader Jayne F., this homey spot is perfect for certified yappers.
  • Macaluso’s | This unassuming, intimate Italian restaurant recommended by Dianne S. is perfect for peace and quiet.
  • Michaels Cuisine Restaurant and Bar | Head to this restaurant’s back area for a quieter vibe that makes you feel like a regular.

Cozy + vibey

  • Wishbone & Flynt | Reader Suzin H. recommends this spot with a hidden bar inside — the Amber Room — that’s primed for a relaxed hangout.
  • Thompson’s Bookstore | We love conversing behind the curtain-separated booths + on the comfy seating options at this basement-level speakeasy and cigar lounge.
  • Southside Cellar | Grab a spot on the couch at this cozy bar. Avoid Tuesdays after 8:30 p.m. if you don’t want to listen to open mic comedy.
A line of chairs sit before small, round tables that ate set with plates, glasses, and silverware.

61 Osteria came highly recommended as a place for intimate conversation by our readers.

Romantic

  • 61 Osteria | Recommended by several readers, 61 Osteria is perfect for date night conversation. The upscale Italian restaurant has plenty of seating, but we love the curved booths best for deep chats.
  • Piola Italian Restaurant & Garden | Reader Louise K. suggests this neighborhood gem in North Hi Mount. Keep the conversation going after dining with a ~15-minute walk to the Kimbell.
  • Saint-Emilion | Feel like you’ve transported overseas at this restaurant recommended by reader Angela T., where you can converse while dining on classic French dishes.
  • Maiden | This upscale plant-based restaurant is one of Senior City Editor Kate’s favorite spots to dine and discuss.
Know of another good spot for talking? Dish.

You might be asking yourself, “What more can I do to plan for my retirement?” We’ll let you in on a secret: Share certificates (also known as certificates of deposit) are a stable and secure investment option for retirement planning.

Here’s how to capitalize on this strategy long before you even think about retiring:
  1. Start early: Benefit from retirement savings as they compound over time.
  2. Predictable returns: Share certificates offer higher yields than savings accounts, guaranteed returns, and protection from market fluctuations.
  3. Flexibility: Share certificate benefits include flexible terms, set interest rates, predictable returns, and forced savings discipline due to early withdrawal penalties.
  4. Incorporate certificate laddering: Invest in multiple certificates with staggered terms to ensure continuous growth and flexibility.
  5. Switch it up: Diversify with stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, and 401(k)s for a well-rounded retirement plan.
Connect with the experts at United Texas to learn how to incorporate share certificates into your retirement profile.

Imagine a Fort Worth with perpetual 70° days + plenty of sidewalks. | Photo by @panther_city_air

Imagine your dream life in Fort Worth. Maybe you’re thinking of cooler weather, easier transit, and freebies from your favorite local spots — but it can’t be that easy, right? We make the hypothetical rules here, and you can only pick two.

We took to Instagram to ask our followers to choose from these five dream scenarios:
    • Summer temps below 100°
    • More sidewalks in the city (which could address walkability, something locals have expressed the city needs to improve)
    • $500 rent forever
    • Unlimited gift cards to your favorite local businesses (we’re looking at you, Fort Worth coffee shops)
    • Better traffic flow on I-35
Cooler weather and cheap rent seemed to rule the majority, but we want to hear from our readers, too. Cast your vote below for the top two options you’d pick.
