  • Los Vaqueros’ Stockyards location has reopened. The Tex-Mex restaurant closed the space in July to move into a new spot on Rodeo Plaza, but announced a reopening for its 30-year anniversary + the continuation of regular business hours. (WFAA)
Development
  • Officials recently broke ground on a 100-acre entertainment district in Mansfield. Upon completion, the development is set to include a 7,000-seat multisport stadium and a High 5 Entertainment venue. (Fort Worth Report)
Travel
  • Intelligent power management company Eaton Corp. PLC recently announced that it will install ~$10 million worth of equipment at DFW Airport’s electric Central Utility Plant in 2025. The plant is expected to help the airport achieve net-zero carbon emissions. (WFAA)
Number
  • Over $32,000. That’s how much local organization Mercy Clinic will receive via a national grant to help cover the cost of medications and supplies. The clinic provides free medical, dental, and prescription services to uninsured south Fort Worth residents. (Fort Worth Report)

  • Mr. Gatti’s Pizza will open its new Seminary Hill location on Monday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. The pizza and entertainment chain will offer special raffle prizes and Gatti’s swag throughout the week.

  • The State Fair of Texas revealed its Big Tex choice award winners. The Dominican Fritura Dog won “best taste” in the savory category, while Rousso’s Cotton Candy Bacon on a Stick took home the sweet title. “Most creative” went to Texas Sugar Rush pickles. Check out the other finalists.
Outdoors
  • Texas State Park pass holders will not see a price increase after September 1, despite previous announcements. The decision to increase prices for the Texas State Park Pass + Youth Group Annual Pass has been reversed, according to the Texas Parks and Wildfire Department. (The Dallas Morning News)

  • Two local ZIP codes were listed in Realtor.com’s survey of the hottest housing markets in America. Bedford’s 76021 ZIP code was ranked No. 37, while Flower Mound’s 75028 ZIP code came in at No. 40. (CultureMap Fort Worth)

  • Good news from WFAA’s morning meteorologist Greg Fields: Temperatures look like they may come down over Labor Day weekend, and there’s a small chance of rain late next week. Fingers crossed.

    Each year, US News & World Report evaluates 500+ Texas hospitals to rank the 30 best healthcare facilities in the state.

    In Dallas-Fort Worth, nine adult hospitals and two children’s health centers made the list. Keep reading to see how these regional spots weigh in for 2024-2025.

    Adult care

    No. 2 | UT Southwestern Medical Center
    The teaching hospital is nationally ranked in 11 specialties including cancer care and has locations in Dallas and Fort Worth. The hospital was ranked No. 1 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

    No. 3 | Baylor University Medical Center
    The Dallas-based facility is nationally ranked in cancer care, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery.

    Pediatric Care

    No. 2 | Children’s Medical Center Dallas
    The hospital is nationally ranked in 10 pediatric specialties.

    No. 3 | Cook Children’s Medical Center
