🛒 Attention, shoppers

Prep that shopping list, Fort Worthians. After years of planning, H-E-B will officially debut its highly anticipated store at 3451 Heritage Trace Pkwy. in Alliance Town Center today — the popular Texas grocer’s first-ever location in Tarrant County. We’ve been hungry since the groundbreaking back in October 2022.

A display case at a new H-E-B grocery store near Fort Worth, Texas is filled with fresh, hand-rolled tortillas. Several signs surround the display case reading, "The Freshest Tortillas: Rolled Out Around the Clock," and "Fresh Tortillas Made Daily."

A glorious sight — the fresh tortillas have taken the spotlight at the new H-E-B Alliance store in Tarrant County.

🛒 A sweep of the supermarket

We got a chance to peruse the freshly minted aisles. Inside, shoppers will find all of the bells and whistles that make H-E-B a household name, including:
  • Fresh foods prepared in-store — think: bread, sushi, and that beloved guacamole
  • A bakery brimming with artisan breads and those signature warm, homestyle tortillas — yes, we ate a few while browsing
  • Produce galore — the company sources 100 million pounds annually from Texas growers
  • A home department complete with furniture
  • H-E-B Meat Market with a plethora of cuts
  • H-E-B Pharmacy — BRB, transferring our prescriptions right now
  • A lush plant + garden center
  • A full-service barbecue restaurant, True Texas BBQ
The produce section at H-E-B Alliance in Tarrant County. Shelves on the right are stocked with pineapples and other fresh fruits and vegetables, while the display boxes on the left are stocked with strawberries. Bright signs hang from each section, displaying the prices and store deals.

In honor of the H-E-B Alliance opening, the company donated $10,000 each to Casa of Tarrant County + the North Texas Humane Society, keeping good on its promise to support local communities.

  • For Alicia Alvarez, the birth of her daughter, Sol Celeste, overshadowed the solar eclipse. Born at 1:04 p.m. at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center — minutes before the moon fully blocked the sun — the baby is named after the Spanish word for sun; her big sister’s name is “Luna,” Spanish for moon. Eating meat-free hasn’t always been easy, but in Fort Worth, it’s a piece of (vegan) cake. We’ve put together a guide to the best vegan + vegetarian restaurants in Cowtown — these are a few we’ve been loving lately:
    • Vida Cafe | The family behind Belenty’s Love Mexican Vegan Restaurant opened this vegan Italian concept in 2023 with a twist on classic dishes like spaghetti, mozzarella sticks, meatballs, and paninis.
    • Flower Child | The healthy eatery in University Park Village features made-from-scratch meals and custom bowls, wraps, and salads that can be made gluten-free.
    • The High Vegan | This Louisiana-inspired vegan restaurant opened in late 2023 with options like Cajun pasta, sub sandwiches, hot dogs, and savory + sweet empanadas.
    • Vice Burger | This place really lives “life on the veg,” offering vegan burgers, sandwiches, Impossible chicken nuggets, and hot dogs. We hear the milkshake using vegan gelato is delicious.

City Guides are presented by Walsh.

This under-cabinet pots and pans organizer. We love how it actually utilizes the vertical space in kitchen cupboards and (bonus) can be turned on its side to use as a lid organizer.

All of this H-E-B excitement has me thinking about my all-time favorite grocery stores. My No. 1 is Trader Joe’s (Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend for the win, every time), followed closely by Sprouts. What’s your favorite grocery store? Let us know.
