Take a walk with us this morning down some of our favorite nearby trails. Bonus — City Editor Rebecca went on a mission to survey which trails solo hikers felt most comfortable on, and we’ve included her findings here. Happy hiking.

Loughridge Lake

  • Length: 0.9 miles
  • Highlights: For our folks in the north of the city, this quick daily walk option was mentioned as a safe choice for its visibility + popularity with dog owners. It’s also stroller-friendly.

Gateway Park West Loop

  • Length: 3.8 miles
  • Highlights: This trail has scenic river views + is a popular choice for mountain biking.
  • Activities: Hiking, running, mountain biking, bird watching

Riverbottom Trail Loop

  • Length: 3.9 miles
  • Highlights: This trail is located on Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge land — so expect a $6 entree fee, but also plenty of wildlife + a preserved ecosystem.
  • Activities: Hiking, running, dog-walking, bird + wildlife watching

Trinity Trail Loop

  • Length: 2.5-5.6 miles
  • Highlights: The Trinity River trails, smack in the middle of the city, were the most popular pick for solo hikers. Daytime hikes were recommended, as this trail isn’t lit at night.

Foster Park Trail

  • Length: 10.7 miles
  • Highlights: This trail connects with a Trinity River trail and is mostly paved.
  • Activities: Hiking, running, biking, mountain biking

Eagle Mountain Lake

  • Length: 2.7-7 miles

  • Activities: Hiking, running, bird-watching — dogs not allowed

Arcadia Trail

  • Length: 5 miles
  • Highlights: Follow the paved main path or explore the many small side trails along this point-to point trail.
