Class dismissed. Fort Worth ISD announced yesterday that all schools will be closed today and tomorrow due to a winter storm warning in effect for most of North Texas. 🌨️

While some may welcome the surprise four-day weekend, it’s understandable for parents to have questions about the closure. We’re here to break down everything you need to know + give you some ideas to keep your family busy.

Are after-school activities canceled, too?

Yes. All after-school activities for the rest of the week have either been canceled or postponed, including Fort Worth After School.

When will the days be made up?

May 26 and May 27 are two inclement weather days that are built into the FWISD calendar. Tomorrow, Feb. 4, is already a planned student holiday — no make-up day is required.

How will it affect district employees?

Hourly employees will not report to work unless they are directed by their supervisor to do so. Exempt teachers will work remotely both days.

What should I do with the extra days off?

We’re so glad you asked; that’s what we’re here for. Avoid getting on the icy roads with these family-friendly virtual events:

📝 Writers Workshop | Thurs., Feb. 3 | 6:30-8 p.m. via Zoom | Free

  • Author Jessica Hindman will lead the class in a writing workshop and provide tips on how to view yourself as a character in your writing.

📙 Kids Readathon | Fort Worth Public Library | Free

  • For every 100 books your child reads, they can stop by the library to pick up a prize.

🎲 Virtual Game Night | Thurs., Feb. 3 | 7-10 p.m. | Free

  • Enjoy trivia games on topics like Disney, 1990s music, and history + play classics like charades, Pictionary + drinking games.

The District said it will continue to closely monitor weather conditions — stay tuned to the District’s Facebook page and website for updates.
