👀 Who to watch

Head coach Sonny Dykes will lead the team for his second season — this time as the standing Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year. The real question: Will Sonny be reprising his viral hypnotoad sweatshirt?

With eight Horned Frogs drafted into the NFL — including quarterback Max Duggan — we’re keeping a close eye on new and returning faces that have made some recent watchlists.

Meadowbrook Golf Course renovations are about to tee off

Construction is preparing to swing away at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

The course first opened in 1924 as Meadowbrook Country Club before the city purchased it in 1938. Managed by Fort Worth Golf, the Eastside 18-hole course is considered one of the “top 25 municipal golf courses in Texas.”

Now, as the recreation area approaches its 100th birthday, the fairways are ready for some upgrades.

In 2021, the city hired Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design — who oversaw the 2017 renovation of Rockwood Park — to develop a master plan. Renovations totaling $7 million were approved in the 2022 Bond Program.

The new designs make the most of the site’s rolling hills and will:
  • Reroute all holes except 10, 12 + 13
  • Change Hole 12 from a par four to a par five + Hole 13 from a par five to a par four
  • Replace the irrigation system, turf + cart trails
  • Stabilize the creek
The park will close this fall as the city aims to tee off construction in November. Completion is slated for early summer 2025.

In case that name doesn’t ring a bell, Eric Carle created childhood favorites like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See,” and “The Grouchy Ladybug.”
