Historic Thistle Hill donated to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, TX

Thistle Hill is now property of Cook Children’s Hospital after Historic Fort Worth gifted the 1904 cattle baron mansion to the hospital.

The Georgian Revival mansion at 1509 Pennsylvania Ave. in the Near Southside holds both local and state preservation statuses and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has served as a house museum and event venue since 1976, having been passed through multiple owners and organizations working to salvage it from demolition.

Now surrounded by the expanding hospital’s property, Thistle Hill’s upkeep will fall to the healthcare system. A legal agreement between Historic Fort Worth and the Texas Historical Commission requires new and future owners to seek state permission before any modifications can take place.

Pre-booked events will continue to take place at Thistle Hill throughout 2022, and then Cook Children’s intends to use the house as a meeting space, while working to preserve the property.
