With holiday travel ramping up, we’re all keeping an eye on the traffic but this road construction project might affect your daily commute in 2024.

Preparations have started for the North Tarrant Express capacity expansion between Fort Worth and Euless, one of the most well-traveled corridors in the region. Funded by toll revenues from the NTE TEXpress lanes, the $414 million project includes:

  • One free, general-purpose lane in each direction along the North Loop of I-820
  • One managed toll lane in each direction along Airport Freeway (State Hwy. 183)
  • Adjusted ramps and connectors
  • A pedestrian bridge in Hurst

Crews have already started installing construction barriers and striping lanes. Full construction will be underway by mid-2024 with most of the work taking place at night to minimize driver disruption.

Scheduled to take 42 months, the new lanes are expected to open in early 2027. Stay up to date with lane closures and construction activity on the Texpress Alerts Twitter page.
