More than 100 sculptures are making their Cowtown debut this week at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. ZimSculpt opens on Saturday, April 15, and will run through Sunday, July 30.
The exhibition features contemporary Shona sculptures — which are carved from serpentine, semi-precious stone, and measure up to seven feet tall — from various Zimbabwean artists.
Find the heavy sculptures throughout the garden and learn about the art form by watching on-site sculptors carve statues using chisels, hammers, files, and sandpaper.
The exhibit will change over the course of the summer as each piece is available for purchase at The Marketplace — located next to the Japanese Garden — and will be replaced by a new one.
“What visitors experience the first day of the show may be altogether different later in the exhibit.” ZimSculpt founder Vivienne Prince said in a press release.
The exhibit is free for garden members and included in general admission .
