Texas’ medical cannabis program just saw its biggest expansion yet.

With the passage of House Bill 46, which went into effect on September 1, 2025, the Lone Star State has significantly broadened access to medical marijuana through the Compassionate Use Program (CUP), marking its largest update since the program launched in 2015.

Who qualifies?

The biggest change: eligibility.

The Compassionate Use Program now covers more than 150 qualifying conditions, meaning millions more Texans may be able to access medical cannabis. Conditions include chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), PTSD, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and more. See the full list here.

The new law also allows for same-day pickup at licensed locations across the state, making it faster and easier for patients to get the relief they need.

Products and options

Expanded product options also give Texans more ways to manage symptoms. Last fall, Texas Original introduced the state’s first medical cannabis concentrates and flower rosin gummies, expanding options for more targeted and whole-plant relief.

Then, in March, Texas Original added a high-potency CBG and THC tincture, designed to deliver stronger relief with less oil.

Medical vaporization devices are also expected to become available pending state approval, which could offer faster-acting relief for patients with episodic symptoms.

Getting started

Becoming a patient is a three-step process:

  • Fill out a form to find out how to get a prescription.
  • Meet with a doctor registered to prescribe medical cannabis.
  • Fill your prescription at Texas Original and enjoy 20% off your first order. No coupon code required.

For Texans curious about medical cannabis or seeking relief for qualifying conditions, this expansion offers more options than ever. Learn more about qualifications and start the process below.
