It’s that time of the month when a small North Texas town becomes a hot spot for shoppers. Before the first of each month, 100,000+ people travel to Canton (Pop. 4,000) to shop at the World’s Largest Flea Market.

The market is about a 1.5-hour drive for Fort Worthians following the I-30 route.

Background

The market began in the 1850s when a circuit judge stopped by the city on the first Monday of each month to listen to cases. That’s when residents would conduct business + sell or trade livestock.

By 1965, First Monday outgrew its town square and the city purchased six acres to help support local businesses.

Shopping

Today, the market consists of 400+ acres of shopping and 5,000+ vendors. First-time visits can be overwhelming (think Mall of America but a flea market) so we’re here to map out what you can expect. If you’re hoping to get your hands on unique furniture, rugs, clothing + other home items, check out the Famous Vendor Fields and Antique Alley. You can also find one-of-a-kind items + collectibles at the Civic Center.

Must-see vendors along Row 46:

  • Hinz 57 — a unique furniture store made from salvaged bowling lanes + other antiques.🪑
  • Latitudes — fair trade, nonprofit store supporting artisan groups in 13 countries. 🛍️
  • Paintbrush Hill Shoppe — custom artwork and infant apparel. 🎨
  • Wild’s Creek & Company — a family-owned business specializing in farmhouse design. 🏠

Food

From funnel cakes to turkey legs, First Monday cooks up something for everyone. Here’s what we recommend you check out:

🍨Dairy Palace (2301 N. Trade Day Blvd)

🍔Ole West Bean and Burger (1350 S. Buffalo St)

🍝Val’s Italian Restaurant (116 S. Capitol St.)
