With the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl in overtime last night, it’s hard for other sports news to take top priority, but these mix-ups from local teams will give it the old college try. Keep reading to see which sports and coaching legends are trading jerseys and who’s hanging around.

Mike Zimmer

The former Minnesota Viking head coach is coming home to North Texas. Zimmer is reported to be the new Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, replacing Dan Quinn, who was hired by the Washington Commanders. The Commanders are also taking Joe Whitt, Jr. + attempting to poach defensive back coach Al Harris.

Zimmer started as an assistant coach for the Cowboys in 1994 and served as the defensive coordinator from 2000 to 2006. He was part of the coaching staff when “America’s Team” won their last Super Bowl in 1996.

Gary Patterson

The former TCU head coach is headed to another Big 12 rival. After resigning from TCU in October 2021 and spending the 2022 season with the University of Texas as a consultant, he’ll soon be sporting Baylor green and gold as a senior-level strategic consultant.

With six TCU conference championships and two National Coach of the Year awards, Patterson will now help Baylor staff break down upcoming opponents and scout potential players for the Bears.

Adolis García

Don’t panic, Rangers fans — the World Series Champion right fielder isn’t going anywhere. García and the Texas Rangers settled on the framework for a contract last week, narrowly avoiding an arbitration hearing.

The two-year contract totals $14 million — $4.75 million in 2024 and $9.25 million in 2025 — with the potential to escalate to $20.5 million. The deal with the ALCS MVP is set to go through pending a physical exam.
