Some good news is teeing up for the golf lovers out there. We’re gearing up for the “year of golf” with four new and improved courses on the horizon throughout the metroplex. From classic course restorations to state-of-the-art swing suites, we’re ready to swing away at these new facilities.
Colonial Country Club | Reopening May 2024
The storied University-area club is going back to its roots with a $20 million renovation. Set to be completed in time for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in May, the master plan will take the course back to its 1941 U.S. Open design with help from golf course architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner.
The master plan includes:
- Renovations to the clubhouse with new gathering spaces, updated technology, and elevated member experiences
- Installation of a hydronic system underneath each green
- Construction of a $4.3 million training center and practice facility for TCU men’s and women’s golf (set to be completed July 2024)
PopStroke at Grandscape | Opening February 2024
Golf entertainment operator PopStroke — sponsored by sports legend Tiger Woods — is bringing family fun to The Colony (~40 miles northeast of downtown). The mini-golf venue will feature two 18-hole putting courses + be the company’s second Texas location.
The venue also features:
- Kids playground
- Outdoor beer garden with lawn games
- Full-service bar and dining area
- Space for hosting events
UnderPar Life | Opening 2025
A high-end Topgolf-style facility is underway at Westworth Village thanks to a team of professional golfers Mike Flynn and Bryson DeChambeau + entrepreneur David Deering. The two-story, 16,000-sqft venue is located at the city-owned Hawks Creek Golf Club.
Noteworthy features include:
- 42 hitting bays
- 500-yard driving range
- Fitness center
- Golf instruction academy
- Three bars and a kitchen led by chef Christian Lehrmann
Meadowbrook Golf Course | Reopening summer of 2025
Part of the 2022 bond program, the Eastside city-owned course is getting a revamp ahead of its 100th birthday. Construction has started on a $13 million renovation for the 18-hole course as part of a master plan by Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design.
The new designs include:
- Rerouting all holes except 10, 12 + 13
- Changing Hole 12 from a par four to a par five + Hole 13 from a par five to a par four
- Replacing the irrigation system, turf + cart trails
- Stabilizing the creek
Update: This article originally included Kelly Ranch Golf Club. As of Thursday, January 18, Escalante Golf announced that it parted ways with the Kelly Ranch development in Aledo. In a press release, the two developers said they were “unable to reach a mutually beneficial deal structure.”
