This interactive exhibit overlooks the Dallas Love Field runway. | Post by @visit_dallas
“I’m going to be a pilot,” declared Bessie Coleman. Born in Texas in 1892, Coleman was the first Black person ever to earn a pilot’s license.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field is commemorating Black History Month with an interactive exhibit celebrating the life and work of the trailblazing aviator. The display takes you on a journey, starting with her birth to her life and career in aviation, which was sadly cut short during a rehearsal flight.
The exhibit runs through May, and access is included with all general admission tickets — $20 for adults and $12 for kids. Pro tip: when you visit, look up. Coleman’s favorite aircraft, the Curtiss JN “Jenny,” is suspended from the ceiling.
One of the most significant roles of the Curtiss “Jenny” aircraft in the 1920s was mail-carrying and barnstorming. What is barnstorming?
A. A method of delivering mail to rural farms B. A style of aerobatic flying and stunts C. An early weather-tracking system D. A military training exercise
Designed for ages 3 to 5, Zoo School blends wildlife encounters, outdoor exploration, and hands-on learning into a one-of-a-kind experience.
From watching animals up close to hiking through the Zoo, children learn by doing — building confidence, curiosity, and friendships along the way.
The program runs September 2026 through May 2027 and includes themed activities, snacks, a Zoo School T-shirt, and memorable in-park excursions.
Families can choose between two flexible options:
Tiny Trackers (ages 3 to 5) meets once a week for three hours, with morning or afternoon sessions available.
Nature’s Navigators (ages 4 to 5) meets twice a week for five-hour days, giving children even more time to explore, create, and connect through nature-based learning.
At Zoo School, every day is filled with moments of wonder. Spots fill quickly: enroll your child today.

Fun Fact
Did you know the “World’s Littlest Skyscraper” is located in Wichita Falls? That’s right. In 1919, contractor J.D. McMahon built a 480-inch-tall structure, swindling investors into believing it would be 480-ft-tall. WFAA’s Sean Giggy shares more weird — but true — history in a weekly series.
