News Notes

Development

The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars could both leave the American Airlines Center by 2031. No agreements have been reached, but the Mavs are exploring a new arena for the 2031-32 season, while the Stars are considering Plano or Arlington. Either move would reshape downtown Dallas’ sports and entertainment scene. (Dallas Business Journal)

Coming Soon

Perkins American Food Co. is coming to Texas for the first time, with a new location in Crowley set for fall 2026. Known for pancakes, pies, and homestyle classics, the brand will debut a refreshed concept under local owners Shaikh Satter and Sanjida Khatoon. Stay tuned for the address. (CultureMap Fort Worth)

Feel Good

How about a trip to the zoo? The Dallas Zoo welcomed a healthy male reticulated giraffe calf, born Sept. 24. Standing just an hour after birth, the 5-foot-8, 156-pound newborn is already exploring his world. Mom, Katie, and calf are reportedly doing well, and the zoo will soon share his name and when visitors can meet him. (NBC DFW)

Seasonal

Celebrate the season with a music-filled weekend in Fort Worth and Dallas. The Cliburn is hosting free Community Concerts Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1, with performances every half hour. Highlights include Spooky Sounds Under the Singing Trees, Dallas’ Trick or Treat on Downtown Streets, and Día de los Muertos en Fort Worth on Nov. 1.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the first soccer player in history to accrue a net worth of $1 billion, per Bloomberg statistics. Currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, the 40-year-old shows no sign of calling it quits anytime soon. If you start by bringing a ball to a local park with your kid, maybe they’ll amass a similar fortune.

Post of the Day

Grammy-winning artist Leon Bridges reveals a black sign topper in his name at the corner of Calhoun St. and Daggett Ave.
Fort Worth just got a little more smooth-sailing. Leon Bridges officially has a street sign topper with his name on it — fittingly placed near Niles City Sound, where he recorded his Grammy-nominated debut “Coming Home.” The Fort Worth legend and Crowley High School grad was honored earlier this week as fans, family, and city officials cheered him on.

Check it out for yourself at the corner of Calhoun Street and Daggett Avenue.

The Wrap

Hey, y’all! Happy to be filling in for Elizabeth this week — and lucky to land on a day when I get to cover something as special as a local artist receiving his flowers (or in this case, his name on a street sign). I’m an absolute fan of Leon Bridges’ music and his kind demeanor. Hoping to see him live soon, but until then, please enjoy this Tiny Desk concert from 10 years ago — still the same cool guy.
