This week, we kicked off our North Texas sports guide, introducing you to the Dallas Cowboys.
Today we’re going from the turf to the ice and learn about Dallas’ professional hockey team — whose regular season opens in less than 50 days on Thursday, Oct. 9 versus the Winnipeg Jets.
🏒 Dallas Stars | Est. 1967
Originally founded as the Minnesota North Stars as part of the 1967 NHL expansion, the franchise merged with the Cleveland Barons in 1978 before relocating to North Texas and rebranding as the Dallas Stars in 1993.
Some fun facts about the Stars:
The Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999, but have played in the finals five times across the entire franchise history.
They appeared in the conference championships in 1999, 2000, and 2020 + hold two Presidents’ Trophies (1998 and 1999).
Brett Hull became the first Stars player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009, followed by Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk, and Mike Modano.

Tarrant County commissioners voted this week to reduce the number of voting locations and polling sites. The total number of stations (including early voting) will go from 331 in 2023 (the last odd-numbered November election) to 216. See which stations were affected. (Fort Worth Report)
