News Notes

Mansion Monday

We’ve never seen that kind of wallpaper before. A short distance from the Colonial Country Club, enter a five-bedroom, six-bathroom estate with a library made of marble, a temperature-controlled wine room, and two primary suites — one includes its own private fireplace.

Seasonal

Summer is coming. The summer solstice is this Friday, June 20, which marks the astronomical start of the season. It’s also the longest day of the year — measured by the amount of daylight — and the sun will set in Fort Worth at 8:40 p.m.

Older Adults

Uber is introducing new accounts for seniors with features like a larger typeface, fewer buttons, and easier-to-follow instructions. It’s now live in Cowtown — good news if you were planning to take an Uber to the next big event. (The Verge)

Eat

Lettuce celebrate Fresh Veggies Day, which is today. The observance commemorates the nutritional value of vegetables, and there’s no better way to partake than by stocking up at a local farmers market.

Sports

The Dallas Mavericks have seemingly denied the New York Knicks’ request to speak with Jason Kidd about a head coach position. Listen to more updates on the professional basketball team with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Weather

Last week, our friend and meteorologist Pete Delkus celebrated 20 years with WFAA. True fans will remember his McKinney heat index gag that went viral. (WFAA)

Round of a-paws, please. From fur-bulous weekend spots like MUTTS Canine Cantina to spoiling your pup with royal treatments at Hotel Drover, it makes sense that Fort Worth ranks No. 32 in WalletHub’s 2025 100 Best Cities for Dogs list.

Whether you’re in need of a drinking paw-tner at a local brewery, hitting the Saturday morning market, or just dining out, get ready to dig into this guide for dog-friendly spots around the 817.

Second Rodeo Brewing, Stockyards | The business says dogs are its favorite customers, as does its turfed courtyard.

Tanger Outlets, Alliance | You wouldn’t be barking mad to take your dog to this open-air outlet mall on the north side of town.

Bark Park at First Flight, West 7th | Dogs must be licensed and tagged to enter the small urban park for pint-sized pups.

Benbrook Lake Trail, Benbrook | The six-mile trail is a great site for exercising or relaxing in nature with dog-friendly campsites.

The Buy

Olay Super Cream with sunscreen. The tried-and-true cream boasts better hydrating power than the No. 1 luxury moisturizer on the market — plus, it plumps, firms, and protects skin, making it a great daytime moisturizer to wear alone or under makeup.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Elizabeth Hastings

Did you think I was done sharing pictures from my recent Ireland trip? Think again. One of the highlights was visiting the 15th-century O’Brien’s Castle on Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands. We took a ferry ride from the Doolin pier and scored a private tour with a local guide named Stefan. When asked if he’d lived there his whole life, he responded, “not yet.”

Pro tip — if you ever visit Inisheer, be sure to stop by the Inisheer Hotel for the best bangers and mash.
