The board of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA) has voted to close the school, due to financial reasons. The AVPA is a tuition-free charter school serving sixth through eighth-grade students, founded in 2001. The school had plans to extend to 12th grade, but online enrollment is currently closed. (WFAA)

Hideaway Pizza — which announced a north Fort Worth location in March — has a revised opening date. The first day to pick up a 16-inch Aporkalypse pie with a side of fried mushrooms is Monday, Aug. 18. The grand opening was originally set for June 5. (Community Impact)

Solar energy company Wolf River Electric ranked Texas No. 2 on its list of states most at-risk for power outages this summer. Between 2019 and 2023, Texas had 7,160+ summertime power outages. ERCOT predicts its system will have a new record for peak demand this August at 85,759 megawatts. (CultureMap Fort Worth)
Outdoors
The 68-acre Oak Grove Community Park in south Fort Worth is set to receive $3 million worth of renovations. The renovations will provide athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, and other amenities. While no exact date has been announced, the park is slated to be complete next year. (Fort Worth Report)
