News Notes

Wellness

Tomorrow is National Fitness Day, celebrated each year on the first Saturday of May. Get your sweat on at one of these local gyms around Fort Worth. If fitness isn’t your thing, it’s also one of our favorite holidays of the year — National Lumpy Rug Day.

Read

Tomorrow is also Free Comic Book Day. The celebration of the genre allows fans to grab free comic books, including titles from franchises like “Spider-Man,” “Archie,” and “Minecraft at select locations. Use this map to find a participating spot, like Y2Komics.

Eat

Chicken + waffles are back at KFC. The popular combo hasn’t been on the menu in over five years — well, at least not at the fast food chain. We know quite a few local brunch spots where you can find the sweet and savory dish.

Fun Fact

2,051. That’s how many feet above river level China’s Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge — set to open this summer — is, making it the new title-holder for the world’s tallest bridge. Compare that to the West 7th Street Bridge, which has a clearance of ~24 ft. (CNN)

Community

If your plans take you to downtown Fort Worth this weekend — prepare to run into a road closure on Taylor Street. WFAA’s Paul Livengood reports traffic will be rerouted in the area between West 5th and West 6th streets from 7 a.m. today, May 2 until 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 for the filming of “Landman.”

Sports

The top 25 post-spring rankings for college football are here, and despite the team’s strong lineup, Baylor got the boot. Get the biggest stories every day from the local experts of the Baylor Bears with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Prepare for an unforgettable year of entertainment. The 2025-2026 Broadway at the Bass Season, presented by PNC Bank, features a record-breaking number of 14 incredible shows. Ready to enjoy world-class performances right here in Cowtown? Explore the lineup and grab season tickets.*

Fort Worth Recycling

Go green — er, blue — by learning how to properly use the recycling carts around town.

Do I need to sort my recyclables?

Most recycling systems in the US have gone single-stream, including Fort Worth. That means your recyclables can go in one bin or paper bag.

The city recommends using the blue curb cart to recycle items or to drop them off at designated locations.

Thinking outside the blue bins

Recycling doesn’t stop at the blue bins — the city offers safe disposal services for paint, oil, hazardous waste + electronics. The community can also sign up for the Residential Food Scrap Composting Pilot Program, which turns household food scraps into rich compost.

City Guides are presented by Walsh.

The Wrap

I’m back — did you miss me? A few weeks ago, I popped into the FTWtoday newsletter for the first time and gave you all some homework. Sabrina L. delivered, emailing me not one but three of her favorite spots in Cowtown. I don’t gatekeep recommendations, so here’s what she said: “Teddy Wongs is amazing for food. Branch & Bird’s rooftop bar has one of the city’s best views. Plus, the bar at Curfew has some of the best specialty drinks.”
