The new National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation (NMOHMF) in Arlington opens to the public on Tuesday, March 25 — which is National Medal of Honor Day.

The Medal of Honor is awarded by the President of the United States to those who demonstrate great valor and sacrifice serving in the Armed Forces. It is the highest military decoration given to those who serve in combat.

Free grand opening event

Before the NMOHMF opens to the public, it’ll host a grand opening “Mission to Inspire” spectacular on Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m. During the event, enjoy fireworks, a 30-minute drone show, and live performances from the US Army Herald Trumpets, the US Army Strings, the US Naval Academy Glee Club + more.

Guests interested in attending are encouraged to register.

News Notes

Transit

Time to get out and enjoy this nice weather. Don’t forget that Trinity Metro released a new fleet of bikes earlier this year — both electric and non-electric. Now, 20 new stations have been installed around town. Using the bikes is as easy as downloading the app + prices begin at $2. (Fort Worth Report)

Festival

Jazz on the Trinity is returning to Funky Town for the first time since June 2017. This one-night festival will feature the Grammy award-winning jazz artist Lalah Hathaway as the headliner + other chart-toppers and local artists. Get tickets now to attend on Saturday, May 31 at Panther Island Pavilion. (Fort Worth Business Press)

Sports

TCU has extended the contract for women’s basketball head coach Mark Campbell through 2030. During just his second season, Campbell led the team to 31 wins, earning them the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Campbell was also named Big 12’s Coach of the Year. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

History

Two buildings just earned local landmark status. The Mulholland Building, built in 1903, was once the Rosen Inn and a furniture store. The Grand High Court of the Heroines of Jericho building, built in 1952, has been the headquarters of one of the oldest Black women’s fraternal organizations. (Fort Worth Magazine)

Feel Good

Fort Worthian Kendra Frank has donated communication boards to the Fort Worth Fire Department. Inspired by her nonverbal son, Frank gifted these boards as a way to help nonspeaking residents communicate in emergencies. With communication boards, nonspeakers point to a graphic or visual to express themselves. (NBC 5 DFW)

Film

Fort Worth filmmaker and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan will receive an honorary doctoral degree from Texas State University. Sheridan — who was a theater major at the university until he dropped out in 1991 — will receive his “Doctor of Letters” degree at a later date. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
Excited for Dallas’ 2026 FIFA World Cup poster? Sorry — we all have to wait until Thursday, April 17. FIFA announced this week that it’ll unveil posters for each of the 2026 host cities designed by a local artist. To stay in the loop on all things FIFA, follow WFAA reporter Paul B. Livengood. (WFAA)

Listen

The first round of the NCAA Division 1 men’s tournament starts today. Tomorrow and Saturday, the women’s tournament kicks off and three Texas teams are headed to the courts — Baylor Bears, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas Longhorns. Don’t miss the excitement with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Stat

Every six seconds. That’s how often a pet owner spends $1,000+ in unforeseen care costs for their fur baby. Pet insurance could cover up to 90% of these costs — find the right plan.*

The Buy

A highly-rated callus file to remove dead skin and calluses so feet are ready for sandal season.

The Wrap

Abraham Lincoln. That’s who created the Medal of Honor. The first medal was awarded to a group of 19 men — known as “Andrews’ Raiders” — for a Civil War mission where they breached Confederate territory.

And that’s your history lesson for the day. I highly, highly, highly recommend visiting the Medal of Honor museum. I got to preview it yesterday and it’s such a powerful exhibit. Bring tissues.
