Sourdough is at an all-time high for popularity, according to Google Trends, and so is interest in making your own. And yes, it’s somehow even more popular than it was in 2020.

If you’re among those baking their way to some new habits and hobbies via flour and yeast, here are a few ways to get among the action in Fort Worth.
  • Conundrum Farms is teaching beginners how to go from no idea to dough idea with their comprehensive class series.
  • There’s also a bunch of class options on Cozymeal, where local accredited bakers offer their expertise. Heads up: These can sell out fast.
For those who prefer to leave their sourdough making to the experts, you can’t go wrong at The Sour Boule, Thyme & Dough Co., or The Village Bakery to find a scrumptious loaf. While you’re there — from our experiences — the apron-laden are usually willing to offer some friendly advice for beginner bakers eager to learn more.

News Notes

Legacy

Local civil rights activist L. Clifford Davis passed away this past weekend at the age of 100. In the 1950s, Davis became one of only two Black lawyers in Fort Worth before helping desegregate North Texas schools. He later became Tarrant County’s first Black judge. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

Development

Cowtown might be saying goodbye to Montgomery Street Antique Mall. A mixed-use development is proposed for the site, and applications are in the works to turn the structure into a 12-story hotel with retail space and residential units. We’ll be keeping our eye on this one. (Fort Worth Report)

Open

It can be hard to keep up with all of Fort Worth’s stellar barbecue joints — that’s where we come in. The family-owned Cultura’s BBQ just joined our city’s stellar lineup, opening earlier this month. The mom-and-pop shop started as catering, but now calls 1900 S. Edgewood Ter. its home. (Fort Worth Culture Map)

Transit

Trinity Metro is delaying plans to open a new downtown bus route. The Blue Line is set to replace Molly the Trolley, but officials need to evaluate funding, pushing its original spring 2025 launch to later this year. (Fort Worth Report)

Biz

The future of The Malt Shop is unclear. Weatherford’s storied hamburger joint first opened in 1958, but owner Janie Alice Harrison says the old school Americana drive-thru is now for sale, adding that it’s time to prioritize her health. Pro tip: Head down on a Tuesday for BOGO burgers. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

Quoted

“This show has never been about one person, and it never will be. It’s about the community.” Those were words spoken by outgoing president of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Brad Barnes. He’s retiring in April after 38 years at the stock show, and is hopeful for its future. (NBC DFW)
