Whether you’re a sports fanatic — or just look good in purple — when it comes to sports, Fort Worth has no shortage of teams to support. Both college and professional football seasons are well underway, NHL teams started facing off at the beginning of this month + the NBA tips off next week.
Check out these two local teams you might not know about and then keep reading for the ultimate fan’s guide to verything you need to know about North Texas sports, whether you’re already a devoted sports fan or you’re new to the area.
🐂 Ariat Texas Rattlers (PBR) | Est. 2022
The Texas Rattlers are Fort Worth’s first-ever professional bull riding team owned by the Fisher Family. The team is sponsored by Ariat Footwear Co. and is part of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Team Series League.
The Rattlers took home the Team Championship title in 2023 and became Fort Worth’s first professional sports team to bring home a national title. At the beginning of October, the finished the regular season at No. 4 and will make their post-season debut on Friday, Oct. 18.
The amateur soccer league plays in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in the Lone Star Conference of the South Region. The Vaqueros just completed their 11th season in the NPSL in 2024 under coach Tony Merola.
In 2015, Vaqueros owner Michael Hitchcock and the newly formed Legend Football Partners acquired Alfreton Town F.C. and formed a partnership with the English club. The partnership created an avenue for player sharing, cross-marketing, international matches, and pre-season training in both countries.

A new mom-and-pop food truck recently opened on Camp Bowie Boulevard serving up cool treats. Pop-Pop Feducci’s Italian Ice & Ice Cream is open 5-10 p.m. Friday-Sunday next to River Crest Gas and Service. Stop by for seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice Philadelphia-style ice cream. Development
City Council will vote tonight on whether to change the zoning around Basswood Elementary. The area is currently zoned industrial, which allowed a Super Motel 6 to be proposed across from the school. The vote could change the land to commercial, but wouldn’t affect existing businesses. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

The Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department’s Dream Club is launching a new all-abilities event. The Adapted Fall Festival will take place from 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19 at Hulen Mall with a pumpkin patch, face-painting, games, vendors, and photo ops with police officers and firefighters.
