Hollywood may be a solid 1,400 miles away, but our little city still manages to stay on the radar of all kinds of celebrities. From musicians to movie stars, check out some of the famous Fort Worthians who call our corner of Texas home.

Taylor Sheridan

Best known as the creator behind Paramount’s drama series “Yellowstone,” Taylor Sheridan was born in North Carolina but raised here in Fort Worth. Longtime locals may remember seeing Sheridan in “Piaf” at Stage West Theatre before moving on to bigger roles in shows like “Veronica Mars” and “Sons of Anarchy.” Sheridan is also known to film his shows around Cowtown.

Bonus: Stay tuned for Michelle Pfeiffer’s lead in the upcoming “Yellowstone” spinoff series “The Madison,” which is also created by Sheridan.

Opal Lee

Known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Opal Lee has spent her life fighting for racial justice and equity here in Fort Worth and across the country. After her family’s Historic Southside home was burnt back in 1939, Lee recently moved into a new home that sits at the very same address. Read her reflections on the home, the Medal of Freedom, the National Juneteenth Museum, and her hopes for the future.

Kirk Franklin

Born and raised in Fort Worth, GRAMMY Award-winner Kirk Franklin previously served as the choir director at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church — at the ripe age of 11. Now, the gospel artist is planning for “The Reunion Tour” that will head to 30+ cities.

Let’s talk trash

Fort Worth is getting a new recycling facility

A hand is showing throwing a Sprite can and two small cardboard boxes into a blue bin that says "Fort Worth Recycles!" on the side.

Construction has begun on a new Waste Management recycling facilitythe very first located within the City of Fort Worth, in fact. Currently, WM processes our recyclables at its Arlington facility.

The facility will collect even more types of plastic for recycling, utilize intelligent sorting technologies, and feature an additional optical sort line. Expect to find it on Hemphill Street — near Crowley ISD’s multi-purpose stadium — by the end of 2025.

By the numbers

  • ~110,000 | Expected square footage of the facility
  • 144,000 | How many tons of recyclable material the facility will have the capacity to process each year — that’s the recyclable equivalent of ~24,000 Texas longhorns of average weight
  • $1 billion | How much WM plans to invest in new + upgraded recycling facilities like this one across North America
Stay tuned for the anticipated grand opening ceremony in 2025. In the meantime, check out our guide to recycling in Fort Worth.
