Drink Up Week is finally here and we have a feeling it’ll be the toast of the town.

Here’s the tea — today through Friday, July 26, we’re celebrating the entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and beverages that make Fort Worth go ‘round.

As you know, we’ve created an interactive map of can’t-miss deals offered by local businesses in Cowtown. Here are the top deals our FTWtoday editors have their eyes on.

City Editor Ted, a long-time fan of Little Red Wasp, is excited about the $5 select draft/wine/spirits + $10 local flight deal, 4-6 p.m. each day

City Editor Kate is dying to try the seafoam margarita at Plank Provisions — just $9 during Drink Up Week — made with espolon reposado, mandarin, lime, agave nectar, and salt air. Someone tell us, is salt air shaken or stirred?

We hope you enjoy sipping your way through our city this week. Cheers to you and happy Drink Up Week, Fort Worthians.

Civic
  • Last year, the city increased the stormwater utility fee by 15%. This year, city officials are considering additional 5% increase, raising residents’ monthly payments from $6.61 to $6.94. The increase is tied to 57,000 ft of pipe that needs repairs within the next couple years, at a cost of somewhere between $42 million and $172 million. (Fort Worth Report)
Coming Soon
  • In addition to Latin fusion spot Bocado taking the three top floors of The Tower downtown, Italian restaurant Belle Gente will open this fall at 575 Taylor St., anchoring the West Fifth Street side of the building. The restaurant will have ingredients flown in from Italy. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
Development
  • The Perot family bought 3,200 acres at the intersection of Interstate 35W and Robson Ranch Road in Denton back in 1987. That land is now being developed into Landmark by Hillwood, a mixed-use neighborhood that will have 6,000 single-family homes, 3,000 multifamily units, and five million sqft of commercial space.
Tech
  • Researchers at UT-Arlington developed software that prevents artificial intelligence chatbots from creating scams and phishing websites. There is no timetable on public availability, but the researchers have contacted Google, OpenAI, and others in the field, attempting to be part of cybersecurity around AI products.
Ranked

It’s Drink Up Week in Fort Worth — but by no means does that have to involve alcohol. We have smoothie places and more on the list this year, as well as multiple businesses with mocktails on their menu— like some of these:

Maiden, 1216 6th Ave.
The vegan fine dining establishment offers a Sober Sage: Ritual zero-proof gin, pear syrup, lemon juice, sage-honey syrup, and a splash of club soda.

Proper, 409 W. Magnolia Ave.
Try a Ramos Grin Fiz, featuring Lyre’s non-alcoholic gin, cherry hibiscus tea syrup, pomegranate, egg whites, and soda water.

Tarantula Tiki Lounge, 117 S. Main St.
Known for its umbrella drinks and island decor, the tiki bar has options like a classic Shirley Temple and The Virgin Ray for $8.

The Buy

Your favorite find from our list of home goods on sale in Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Hint: think $200 off Le Creuset cookware + $50 off Sijo Eucalyptus sheets.

Martin House Brewing’s Sour Fest — the event where Best Maid Pickle Beer, now the brewery’s best-seller, first debuted — returns on Saturday, July 27 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. . The River Arts District brewery is debuting a 13% (wow) sour called MEGA BEAR, and also having a syrup station where you can, ostensibly, create your own sour and then drink it. Sounds... flavorful.
