Bringing home a furry friend is always an exciting adventure full of love, snuggles, and a chewed-up shoe or two.
We’ve done some digging to highlight local animal shelters looking for some purr-fect parents to give these fur babies a second chance.

2024 Tarrant County Go Red for Women Luncheon | Friday, March 1 | 10 a.m.-1 p.m. | Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel, 200 Main St., Fort Worth | $500-$5,000 | Hosted by Kellie Rasberry from the “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning Show,” this luncheon will feature programming focused on women’s health in support of the American Heart Association.
Frost Bank BBQ Lunch | Friday, March 1 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | Frost Bank Grand Prairie Financial Center, 2810 S. State Highway 161, Grand Prairie | Free | The bank will host a grand opening celebration with a barbecue lunch including brisket and carnitas tacos.

The Near Southside community event Open Streets will return this spring after a four-year pause. Open Streets will close Magnolia Avenue from 8th Avenue to Hemphill Street on Saturday, April 13. The free family-friendly event will feature local vendors, cyclists, food trucks + more. Vendors can sign up here.
Development
Several buildings rich in Black history will be preserved under a new historic designation. The Historic Cultural and Landmarks Commission approved recognition for two buildings in Butler Place and the former Carver-Hamilton Elementary School building. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
Sports
The first night of the 2024 MLB draft will be held at Cowtown Coliseum on Sunday, July 14. The draft will coincide with five days of MLB events, including the 2024 All-Star Game at Globe Life Field on Tuesday, July 16.
Arts
A new art piece created with recycled water bottles will be on display at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center starting Friday, March 1. Designed by local students + conservation artist Willie Cole, the “artcycling” project depicts a 25-ft man made out of 20,000 water bottles + will stay up through Sunday, March 31.
Kids
Calling all “Elephant and Piggie” fans — the Disney characters will stop by several Fort Worth Public Library locations next month for a special storytime. From Saturday, March 9 to Tuesday, March 12, kids can meet the beloved characters, take photos, and enjoy activities.
Plan Ahead
The largest exhibit of live, exotic butterflies will be at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden beginning this Friday, March 1. Butterflies in the Garden will feature a diverse collection of butterflies from around the world. The exhibit will be open through Sunday, April 14.

TCU will hold a two-week Shakespeare-focused day camp for youth and teens this summer. Summer Shakes is hosted by the Department of Theatre for rising fourth graders through high school seniors. The camp will run on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 17-28.
Award
Former TCU quarterback Max Duggan — now Los Angeles Charger — was back in Cowtown over the weekend to accept the first-ever Bob Bowlsby Award. The award recognizes student-athletes who represent the best in the conference for their leadership and excellence.

Terra Mediterranean
The restaurant closed in October of 2019, after nearly 10 years on Crockett Row. Last spring, Younger Partners executed a lease to bring Terra Mediterranean back to Crockett Row — now known as Artisan Circle.

The Chicago-style deep-dish pizzeria in Sundance Square served the community for 28 years before it closed in 2020.
