Bloodthirsty for something new to sink your teeth into this fall?

Texas Ballet Theater has unveiled its highly-anticipated 2023-2024 season program, kicking off with “Dracula,” a frightfully spooky production slated for four performances in Dallas over the weekend of Sept. 15, and four here in Fort Worth over the weekend of Oct. 6.

Bonus: The Dallas performance dates will also feature a live score by the Dallas Opera Orchestra. This will be the Texas Ballet Theater’s first performance with a live orchestra in four years, which makes it especially exciting.

Choreographed by Texas Ballet Theater’s iconic Artist Director Laureate Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., the ballet uses imaginative costumes, sets, and a gripping score by Franz Lizst to create an atmosphere as dreadful as Dracula is terrifying. Read: It’s the perfect production to get you into the spooky fall spirit.

A frightfully spooky story

Before there was “Dracula” the ballet, there was “Dracula” the novel, an 1897 Gothic horror story by Bram Stoker. The plot follows a young lawyer, Jonathan Harker, who is captured by the vampire and tormented by his undead brides before eventually vanquishing him.

The ballet adaptation originally premiered in 1997 to mark the 100-year anniversary of Stoker’s novel.

This is a fan-favorite production, so buy tickets sooner rather than later if you want to snag the best seats. We wouldn’t be surprised if it sold out.

Answered: D. If you guessed that Anjelica Huston did not appear in “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” then you would be correct. Although the cast was quite star-studded — Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder co-starred, with additional appearances by Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Cary Elwes, Tom Waits + Monica Bellucci.
