The Texas A&M System broke ground on the new Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus this week.

The eight-story Law and Education building, located between Calhoun and Jones Streets, will be the first to be built and is expected to open in 2025.

The university is teaming up with the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and corporate partners to construct the three-building campus downtown that will promote higher education and workforce development in North Texas.

The four-block site in the former Hell’s Half Acre will soon be home to the new law school, an engineering academy, a health science center, and a virtual reality institute, which was recently awarded $25 million in state funding.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Chancellor John Sharp announced that Lockheed Martin is the first company to sign a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on courses, workforce training, and research with the school.

The least fun part of the tour was the sweltering Texas weather, but at least I had my FTWtoday hat to keep the sun off my face.
