Panther City BBQ is looking to break the world record for barbecuing this week. 🥩
The Texas BBQ Marathon — in collaboration with Texas Monthly and Travel Texas — intends to break the Guinness World Record for the longest BBQ Marathon (team category). The current record was set by Mondo Convenienza in Sassari, Italy — yes Italy, Europe — at 40 hours and 53 seconds in 2017.
Fun fact: The longest BBQ Marathon ever was 80 hours, completed by Jan Greeff in 2014.
Here’s how it will go down 🔥
Pitmasters at Panther City BBQ will continuously smoke meats like brisket, hamburgers, fajitas + bell peppers and onions for 40+ hours in hopes of becoming champs. All of the food will be donated to front-line workers including the Fort Worth police and fire departments, medical workers, and local charities.
The event kicked off last night at 8 p.m., but guests can stop by Panther City BBQ (201 E. Hattie St.) any time to watch the action + snack on delicious samples. The event is expected to end Fri., July 15 at 3 p.m. (43 hours, a couple added on for good measure). If you can’t make it out in the heat, watch the live stream at home.
