This might be the most FTW exhibit ever

Artspace111’s newest exhibit — “Curated Texas: Art & Style” — launches this Thursday, Jan. 15, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public. We spoke with Gallery Manager Marla Fleischmann Owen, who gave us the 411.

The new exhibit blends Texas creativity across three disciplines — art, boots, and jewelry. Works by several Texas artists will be shown alongside statement necklaces from Fort Worth’s Gather Goods and cowboy boots from Austin designer Lauren Owen of Texas.

Owen says it’s “an opportunity to experience strong regional talent, and to connect with art that reflects both craftsmanship and a sense of place.”

Catch this beautiful collection before Sunday, March 22.

News Notes

Mansion Monday

A museum that looks like the Death Star, Africa’s tallest building, and the end of a 144-year project. Those are three architectural marvels on the radar heading into 2026. Here in Fort Worth, this recently listed Crestline masterpiece is a marvel of its own. (CNN)

On This Day

On Jan. 12, 1966, the first-ever TV episode of “Batman” aired. Since then, Bruce Wayne’s adventures have become commonplace in popular media. While we recommend getting a full night’s sleep, if you do find yourself awake in the wee hours, a late-night eat could be in the cards.

Eat

Pizzerias aren’t ruling the restaurant world like they used to. After hitting a record high in 2019, the number of pizza restaurants in the US has steadily declined, with coffee shops and Mexican restaurants now outnumbering them. Slice lovers, consider this your cue to support local pizza purveyors. (Wall Street Journal)

Sports

What’s that you say? The US Men’s National Team soccer jerseys have been leaked? WFAA’s Paul Livengood reshared the images of the home and away kits ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The red-and-white stripes nod to the 1994 kits — the last year the games were played in America.

Fun Fact

How long can a Twinkie last? Back in 1976, a Maine high school science teacher set out to answer that question, and the sweet treat remains unblemished in its glass case 50 years later. We’ve got that beat in FTW — some of our city’s oldest places have been around for much longer. (Bangor Daily News)

Listen

After a historic 12–2 season and Big 12 title, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire and his staff have already started reloading the Red Raider roster for the upcoming season, adding key transfer portal players as they build toward 2026. Catch all the top local stories on the Locked On Texas Tech podcast.

Jobs

Kick off 2026 by growing your team the smart way. Whether you’re a small business ready to expand or a large company filling a critical role, our Job Board connects you with engaged, qualified local talent ready to work. Post your open roles for free and start the new year with strong applications rolling in.

The Buy

Our favorite car accessory: a portable air pump and power bank. Never worry about low tire pressure again with this lightweight device that inflates tires while providing a real-time pressure display. Plus, it features a flashlight + flashing SOS mode for added peace of mind during a breakdown or emergency.

The Wrap

I was surprised to see that Taste Addison has been canceled — and after 30 years. Unfortunately, the annual event resulted in a $750,000 loss last year. The good news? Addison City Council members intend to plan more year-round events. These may include a restaurant week, holiday specials, and even a burger battle. Count me in.
