The holidays are almost here, and it’s time for harvest season treats — particularly a Texas favorite: pecan pie. Who doesn’t love a warm, nutty, caramelly dessert with a buttery crust and a gooey center?

We’ve rounded up nine local spots to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth and holiday menu.

Where to get the goods

Honey Bunch Bake Shop | The mini sizes are perfect to sample coconut cream, banana, white chocolate, lemon, chocolate, and pistachio.
Try this: Go ahead — eat the mini pecan pie all by yourself.

Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop | Try flavors like Southern custard, Granny’s apple, chocolate, key lime, peanut butter, coconut, and chewy chocolate chip in full-size or mini pies.
Try this: A pie for each hand — try both the I-40 with pecan, chocolate chip, toasted coconut + a classic Nanny’s pecan pie.

Oak Street Pie Company | Since 2006, Oak Street has been baking exceptional pies in Roanoke. We’re eyeing flavors such as French silk, buttermilk, and Mexican hot chocolate.
Try this: Chocolate cream pie and pecan are the two most popular flavors.

News Notes

The Fort Worth Stockyards sign.

Dirt was added to the roads in front of the Fort Worth Stockyards to make them more realistic to the era during filming for “1883.”

Plan Ahead

You’re familiar with the sign above East Exchange, which cuts through the Stockyards. Soon, a new sign will grace West Exchange Avenue, and you’re invited to celebrate. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. Take a look at the new sign.

Open

“Cowboy Kiss” is the name of a sushi roll now being served at downtown’s newest rooftop Nikuya Rooftop. The enclosed restaurant and cocktail bar is already open on the 17th floor of the Sinclair Hotel, replacing the former Roof Top Bar. There’s still an outdoor patio for those warmer spring days. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

Concert

Be our guest, be our guest. The Fort Worth Opera invites all to “be their guest” during three special performances of “Beauty and the Beast” on Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22. Pay what you can to see this opera and Jean Cocteau’s 1946 film in one at Ridglea Theater.

Outdoors

The Trinity River will become shadier — errr, one day. Starting this Friday, Nov. 7, over 50 trees will be planted along the Fourth Street and Clearfork trailheads of the river. Volunteers are welcome to attend the Fourth Street planting event to learn how to plant and stake a tree for free. (Fort Worth Magazine)

Seasonal

Veterans Day is next Tuesday, Nov. 11. Veterans and active military get free admission (with ID) to John Wayne: An American Experience from Saturday, Nov. 8 through the holiday. Plus, active military members always enter free at Arlington’s Medal of Honor Museum, and veterans receive discounted admission.

Cause

With two locations now in Tarrant County, the Taste Community Restaurant is experiencing increased business amid the government shutdown. Upon opening, Taste Restaurant adopted a pay-what-you-can model. Visit locations on South Main Street and on North Cooper Street in Arlington, or volunteer. (CBS Texas)

History

If Tarrant County College’s 113-year-old former TXU plant receives a historical marker, then it’ll be saved from demolition. Read more. (Fort Worth Report)
Did the Dallas Cowboys just drop the biggest hint about who’s performing during their Thanksgiving Day halftime show? WFAA’s Sandra Turner shared the official teaser. Among the predictions include Morgan Wallen and Justin Timberlake, but if we had to guess, our money’s on Post Malone.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Elizabeth Hastings

Hey friends. I’m back and so glad to return to the bottom of your daily newsletter. While I was away, Cat shared that monarch butterflies are currently on a migratory journey south and one of their most popular rest stops is Texas. Reader Shanna C. was quick to share one she spotted at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden over the weekend. I just love looking at their beautiful wings.
