In 2005, the National Day of the American Cowboy special commemoration was started by US Sen. Craig Thomas. 26.2% of readers knew he was born in Cody, WY.
It was in 2018 that the US Senate recognized the day of the American Cowboy as a national holiday. Just 6.8% of readers guessed that one.
Lastly, the top three cowboy must-haves as voted on by readers were a pickup truck, jeans so starched they could cut glass, and every George Strait lyric memorized. Top reader suggestions included a great two-step and a bolo tie.
This summer, The Cicada faced potential closure after an increase in rent, dwindling crowds, and a broken air conditioning unit. Thanks to a grant program between Visit Fort Worth and Dallas law firm Mullen & Mullen, the independent music venue has been saved. Starting in 2026, the two organizations will award a DFW-area venue a $20,000 JAMBALOO Venue Prize, and they’ve decided the first recipient will be The Cicada. Check the list of upcoming events. I hope to see you there.
