Solar lights reduce environmental impact and operating costs while delivering consistent lighting 365 nights per year, even during power outages.

Fonroche Lighting America has partnered with Fort Worth to supply more than 3,400 solar-powered streetlights across 30 neighborhoods. The project —which began in 2023 — aims to replace outdated or inoperable streetlights with solar panels in areas with high pedestrian activity, like schools, parks + community hubs.

In case you don’t remember, the French-founded lighting company moved its 20,088-sqft US headquarters to Fort Worth earlier this year. The streetlights will save the city millions in energy costs + provide consistent lighting 365 days per year — even during power outages.

It’s safe to say that over the decades, FTW has been touched by countless historical figures and happenings — many of which have shaped the names of Cowtown’s buildings, parks, and streets. Today, let’s delve into the history of Fort Worth’s streets — specifically how they were named.

Throckmorton Street — named after James Webb Throckmorton, a veteran of the Mexican-American War who later worked as a physician, lawyer, and politician. He served as the 12th governor of Texas from 1866-1867.

Camp Bowie Boulevard — named after Camp Bowie, a World War I military camp that was constructed in 1917 bearing the name of infamous frontiersman Jim Bowie.

Burnett Tandy Drive — named after Anne Valliant Burnett Tandy, a rancher, art collector, and philanthropist who owned the Four Sixes Ranch and was the first female member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

  • 33.9% of readers knew the most popular ice cream flavor in Texas is vanilla.
  • 48.2% of you knew that Amorino Gelato serves its scoops in the shape of a flower.
  • 39.3% of readers guessed the above flavor correctly — it’s Cookie Monster from Morgan’s Ice Cream.

The Wrap

While I’m not too familiar with Stephen Colbert, nor ever watched his late night show, I have gone to a live taping of “The Late Night with Seth Meyers.” It was May 2022 and the special guests were actor Sam Rockwell and none other than former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke. Such a cool experience — highly recommend if you’re ever in The Big Apple.
