🎙️ Country music fans, listen up

Mark your calendars, Fort Worth — the eighth annual Cowtown Unplugged: A Songwriter’s Showcase is headed to downtown on Sunday, May 25.

Arrive at 5 p.m. for registration, then head to the cash bar and enjoy a cocktail hour and appetizers while you wait for the doors to open at 7:15 p.m. The Omni Fort Worth Hotel is offering three premium packages for guests starting at $299 — one including an artist meet-and-greet.

Here’s the scoop on what you can expect during this one-night country music event.
ERNEST | Headlining the event is this Grammy-nominated country-music star — who has collaborated with other country talents such as Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll.

Jenna Paulette | The Texas native — who has already landed brand deals with Justin Boots and Ranch Water — will showcase her vocals and her neo-traditional country sound.

Edu

Fort Worth ISD has narrowed down its list of potential school closures from 25 to 18. Next Tuesday, May 20, the board will put the closures to a vote. If approved, the ISD will begin closing schools at the end of this school year through June 2029. We’ll circle back on this next week. (FOX 4 KDFW)

Sports

Yep, that just happened. The odds that the Dallas Mavericks would win the 2025 NBA Draft lottery were 1.8%, and yet, they did it. There’s buzz that the team will draft Cooper Flagg from Duke, but we’ll find out for sure next month. Follow WFAA sportscaster Jonah Javad for updates. (WFAA)

Development

UT Southwestern’s new radiation oncology center broke ground this week. The 65,000-sqft, $177 million facility will be the largest of its kind in FTW + will provide the first MRI-guided precision radiation treatment for the town. The center is expected to open in 2028. (Fort Worth Report)

Fort Worth’s own Blackland Distillery will now be distributed to all 50 states. The 6-year-old distillery has been recognized by USA Today as one of the top 10 best new craft distilleries + now fans can find a variety of its products in select retail stores and restaurants. (CultureMap Fort Worth)
Today, Denton will welcome home “American Idol” finalist Breanna Nix. This week, Nix made it to the top three before being eliminated. A parade will start at 4:30 at the downtown square + Nix will perform at 7:30 p.m. in front of the visitor center. (The Dallas Morning News)
