A fire station rises from the ashes

There’s something exciting that just opened in Near Southside — it’s not a restaurant, but is conveniently located near several. Enter The Nobleman Hotel — Fort Worth’s first boutique hotel that’s located inside a renovated fire station.

The hotel offers 121 guest rooms, plus 32 extended-stay suites. Guests can enjoy a dip in the pool, a sun bath on the outdoor terrace, a pump at the fitness center, or a brainstorming sesh inside the 1,500-sqft meeting space, which is open to non-guests too.

History in its bones

Built in 1911 by C. H. McFarland, Fire Station No. 5 served what is today the Near Southside neighborhood. The station closed in 1967 and was bought by the city to serve as a storage unit.

In 1982, the city sold the building, but it remained vacant for years. Jeff Blackman, founder of Bedford Lodging, bought it and has developed it into the property you see today.

Did you spot the differences?

This week, we asked subscribers to tell us if they could spot the differences between the two Bass Hall angel sculptures, and here are some of the leads.
  • The two angels’ arm positions are different.
  • They’re holding trumpets in opposite hands.
  • Their wings are not identical.
Essentially, the angels are just exact mirror images of each other. If you don’t believe us, see it for yourself. Bass Performance Hall offers free tours every Saturday at 10 a.m.
