🩰 Ballet Concerto returns to Clearfork

Ballet Concerto comes back to Clearfork

Since 1983, with the exception of 2020, Ballet Concerto has presented a Summer Dance Concert in the metroplex. The 2024 edition will be held in Clearfork at 5188 Monahans Ave. — the large field in the front of the development, where it has been since 2019 — and will run nightly from Thursday, June 20 to Sunday, June 23 at 8:30 p.m..

Lawn seating is free, but reserved tables are also available starting at $75.

Ballet Concerto is a nonprofit performing arts organization that opened in Fort Worth in 1969, with a goal of making “ballet and other forms of dance available to all ages and backgrounds.” In addition to its programming, the troop puts on two major concerts per year: the Summer Dance Concer, and a Holiday Concert in December.

At this summer’s event, attendees will see:
  • “Carmen,” staged by famed Spanish dancer Luis Montero
  • “Ebb and Flow,” a more contemporary piece by resident choreographer Elise Lavallee
  • “Western Sweet,” with choreography by Michael Vernon

“Ebb and Flow” is organized by Elise Lavallee, the official teacher and choreographer of the 2024 Summer Dance Concert.

If you want to sound truly informed while sitting on the grass with your friends, note this: Lavallee, who is the official teacher and choreographer of this year’s Summer Dance Concert, was also the choreographer for “Barney and Friends” (yes, the purple dino) “I Hear Music Everywhere.”

The Ballet Concerto team is led by artistic director (and organizational founder) Margo Dean, who is joined by her son Webster as associate artistic director.

In addition to the Shops at Clearfork as the primary sponsor of the Summer Dance Concert, major partners include the Shops at Clearfork, Amon G. Carter Foundation, Dubose Family Foundation, Garvey Texas Foundation, Ryan Foundation, and William E. Scott Foundation.

A last-second idea for dear old dad

Last-minute Father’s Day ideas

Are you the type of person who woke up this morning and muttered, “Father’s Day ... that’s gotta be the 23rd, right?” Nope. It’s this weekend. Need a last-second idea? We can help.

Devour meat

Black Bear Diner (9501 N. Fwy., Fort Worth + 12613 S. Fwy. in Burleson) is offering a Big Daddy Burger for $19.99: 20 ounces of beef, cheese, onion rings, bacon, and a sunny-side egg.

Hmm ... or lobster?

Cousins Maine Lobster will have a food truck at the Dalworthington Farmers Market (2800 W. Arkansas Ln., Arlington) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. featuring lobster rolls, lobster tots, and lobster quesadilla.

Throw axes

Fort Worth Axe Factory (220 Sylvania Ave., Ste. 110) have dads and grandpas throwing free on Sunday. Not sure we’d do this one after the meat sweats, but... who doesn’t love a challenge?

Drink beer

There are a number of places to grab a local pint, but Martin House Brewing Company is right next to Axe Factory — and is dropping a Parker County Peach brew this week.

Today’s edition by:
Ted

Miss me? I was gone for about two weeks. Based on some love of Hans Christian Andersen stories and general Scandinavian rankings in World Happiness indices, I went to Denmark, Norway, and Iceland — both by land and boat. And weirdly, on the cruise, I met not one, not two, not three, but four other Fort Worth couples. Small world.
