Historic Forest Park Pool will reopen after $15 million overhaul

It’s been a long, hot wait, but the renovations to Forest Park Pool are nearly complete. The city’s oldest aquatic facility opened in 1922 and has been through multiple rounds of renovations in the last 102 years — including an $15 million overhaul that broke ground in early 2023.

While the pool was closed last summer, residents jumped into these 12 other swimming holes and reminisced about their favorite pool memories.

Forest Park Pool

The original Forest Park Pool was circular and had no filtration system — meaning the pool had to be drained and refilled every week.

What to expect

In just a few days, swimmers and sunbathers will be splashing around at the new facility complete with:
  • A 50-meter competition lap pool with starting blocks
  • A leisure pool with a zero-depth entry that extends to 3.5 ft deep
  • A top slide and play structure
  • A 20-ft-tall tween slide
  • All new equipment including chemical and mechanical rooms with chemical controls, UV sanitation units, filters, pumps + plumbing
  • An expanded bathhouse with locker rooms, offices, storage, and lifeguard room
  • All new landscaping and rock benches
“The old Forest Park Pool put in its years. I’m looking forward to people getting to experience the newly minted state-of-the art facility,” Cory Stuhmer, the aquatics coordinator of the city’s Park and Recreation department, said.

Marine Creek Lake Park is about to get even better with the construction of a new trailhead. Tarrant Regional Water District is working on a $500,000 renovation that will add a new trail to the park’s Ten Mile Bridge area on the western side of the lake.

Set to open in September, the new park amenities will feature:
    • A pavilion with picnic tables
    • A kayak and canoe launch
    • A paved parking area
    • Restrooms
    • Controlled entry and exit gates
    • Lighting
    • Designated open and closed hours for safety
Construction kicked off on April 22, closing the existing parking area, but the six-mile Marine Creek loop trail will remain open throughout the renovations. Lakegoers can currently access the water from the boat ramp and docks on east side of the lake.
