We’re dedicated to delivering you impactful, relevant, and positive local news. | Graphic by 6AM City
Hey there. It’s Kate and Ted, the local City Editors you know and love. Allow us to pass the mic to 126 of our coworkers. (Yes, that’s right — an entire team is behind each day’s newsletter, and we couldn’t do it without them.)
We are 6AM City, the parent company of FTWtoday. We’re the people on a mission to engage communities by aggregating the most positive, impactful local news and events into a free, daily email newsletter. Maybe you caught the magic word in there — free. We’re proud that our product comes at no cost for subscribers, and we intend to keep it that way.
This week, we’re asking for support
We get hundreds of thank you emails every week, and we couldn’t be more grateful that we impact your lives. Several of you have asked how you can support us. We have a goal to raise $2,500 over the next 10 days, and we’re calling on you to join in.
You may have gotten something out of reading FTWtoday, like finding that life-changing concert in our Events section, or using our recommendations on the perfect way to spend the day with grandkids. If that was you, we’re calling on you now to support our mission.
Stress-free morning news
Fun fact: We’ve turned down more than a million dollars in political ads since we first started — we’re that serious about our brand promise. In election years like 2024, advertisers move their money around, and those fluctuations impact businesses like ours who don’t accept political ad dollars.
This year, your contribution will go incredibly far to support our staff, back an unbiased approach to local and participatory journalism, and keep our product free for the whole community.

Finance
Did you know? You should revisit your budget + financial plan every six months. During times of inflation (cough, cough, like right now), this is even more crucial. With less money to spend, it’s important to find ways to maximize your hard-earned dollars. Here are four to start with.*
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Cowtown-style. | Photo by @pacosftw
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla in 1862, in which Mexico fought off an invasion of Napoleon III’s French forces. This was only one battle during the Second Franco-Mexican War, but the holiday serves as a remembrance of Mexican resistance + as a celebration of Mexican culture.
Check out these 10 local spots celebrating and serving specials on Sunday, May 5.
Cinco in the District | Cultural District Immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of Mexican American art and culture with a festival from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring three art exhibitions, performances from local ballet folkloricos and mariachis, vendors and food trucks.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration | La Gran Plaza Join the cultural festival with regional Mexican bands, ballet folklorico dance performances, local Hispanic vendors, and themed photo spots.
Pacos | The Magnolia Avenue restaurant is holding a family-friendly Cinco de Mayo Pop-Up with 14 local vendors, mariachis, a bounce house + food and drink specials from 12 to 7 p.m.
A most-loved mother’s day gift so you’re prepared once Sunday, May 12 rolls around. Shop gifts great for mother figures, yourself, or anyone who deserves a little something.
Summer is about to get a lot more fun in southwest Fort Worth — this week, volunteers from American Airlines and Carter’s Kids are constructing a new playground at the Ryan Family YMCA.
Carter’s Kids is a national nonprofit founded by Cater Oosterhouse, former host of “Trading Spaces” — incidentally one of my favorite shows to watch growing up. My sisters and I used to spend hours brainstorming our dream playroom — which obviously included a slide.
