Sip like Caesar
purple-drink-fort-worth-tavern
The lavender martini at The Tavern runs $14 and is a mix of vodka, lavender simple, and lemon. | Katherine Owens
Last summer, our friends at LOUtoday published an article on the best purple drinks in Derby City. We are not afraid to borrow a concept, and purple is kind of Fort Worth’s thing — being home to the Horned Frogs, and all — so let’s list some of our favorite purple libations.

The Tavern | 2755 S. Hulen St.
Tavern actually has two menu options that fit the bill: Kiss The Frog, made with Empress gin and St. Germain, and City Editor Ted’s personal pick, the lavender martini.

The Coupe | 314 S. Main St., Ste. 110
The purple gimlet has returned for spring; as is common with purple concoctions, the drink involves Empress gin.

Second Rodeo Brewing | 122 E. Exchange Ave., Ste. 340
The bar often has a purple drink on tap. Settle in to sip on the large outdoor patio.

You can go off-menu at WXYZ in the Aloft Hotel Downtown and ask for a “Passion Cove,” which is a sweet-sipper.

Purple Frog Cantina | 3468 Blue Bonnet Cir.
Roughly 25% of the drink menu involves purple beverages, which is on-brand considering the proximity to TCU. The purple frog shot is a good opening gambit.

Dutch Bros | Multiple locations
Another non-alcoholic social media nominee was the Dragon Slayer, with a delectable blackberry drizzle.

Tarantula Tiki Lounge | 117 S. Main St.
Our personal favorite thing to order is “Mermaid Orgy,” but check out High Priestess of Funk for a purple fix.

WXYZ | Aloft Hotel Downtown | 334 W. 3rd St.
WXYZ, which has a solid food menu, also has a lavender option. Show you’re in the know by ordering a “Passion Cove” off-menu, which is deep purple and vodka-based.

CAVA | Multiple locations
Several of our Instagram followers suggested the Greek chain’s signature blueberry lavender beverage.

Your turn — tell us the best purple sipper out there.

The 2024 NFL draft is now in the books, and the TCU Horned Frogs had three players drafted into the professional ranks:
    • Offensive lineman Brandon Coleman | Pick No. 67 | Washington Commanders
    • Tight end Jared Wiley | Pick No. 131 | Kansas City Chiefs
    • Cornerback Josh Newton | Pick No. 149 | Cincinnati Bengals
TCU led all the collegiate programs in Texas with eight players selected in last year’s draft; with these three, the team has 11 players selected in the past two drafts, and 26 players currently on NFL rosters overall.

Wiley, Coleman, and Newton were previously invited to the NFL’s Scouting Combine in Indianapolis — a showcase for draftable talent — along with three other Frogs who weren’t drafted this weekend.

Running back Emani Bailey, one of those three players, did sign with the Kansas City Chiefs after the draft. Offensive lineman Andrew Coker signed with the Raiders, and safety Millard Bradford signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Safety Mark Perry was also signed by the Miami Dolphins.

    Ted Bauer.png Today’s edition by:
    Ted
Last week, we asked you which Horned Frog has the longest NFL tenure?

While 24 readers answered, only one person got it right. The answer: Jerry Hughes, Jr., who was selected at No. 31 by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2010 NFL Draft. He’s currently a free agent, meaning he’s not on an active professional roster, but his 14-year career puts him three years ahead of LaDainian Tomlinson, a commonly guessed player.

Andy Dalton was drafted the year after Hughes, Jr. — and is on the Carolina Panthers’ roster, so he could soon be the answer to this question.
