  • City Council approved $4.5 million to improve crossing guard coverage in Tuesday’s meeting. The funding allows for all 314 intersections used by elementary and middle schoolers to be covered, along with salary increases for guards and field supervisors.
Development
  • More upgrades are coming to the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Earlier this week, City Council approved $4 million to update electrical in the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall and another $687,805 to update the roof of the Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium.
Festival
  • Grab a free ticket to Mayfest at any Fort Worth Public Library branch between now and Saturday, May 4. Just present your library card — or sign up for one on the spot. Mayfest runs from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 5. Stay tuned for a “know before you go” article in an upcoming newsletter.
Biz
  • “Could’ve only been orchestrated by God” — Native Coffee + Kitchen (2725 Heritage Trace Pkwy.) seemed to close on Saturday, April 20, but in a caffeinated swerve, it will return as a new concept with new ownership called Harvest Coffee.

  • The drones are coming — two Walmart Supercenters in North Richland Hills (9101 N. Tarrant Parkway and 6401 NE Loop 820) will begin drone delivery service within four miles of both stores. This is a collaboration with Wing, a drone company that begin serving DFW in 2021. Landing pads at the stores were approved in February.

  • $17.2 billion: That’s how much money in net sales aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Martin saw in the first quarter of 2024. It was $1.2 billion higher than the analyst estimate and $2.1 billion higher than the first quarter of 2023.

Grand Prairie City Hall (200 W. Main St., Grand Prairie, ~20 miles east of downtown Fort Worth) will be hosting the three-day Main Street Fest this week.

While admission is free, some rides are ticketed. Grand Prairie residents can get unlimited single-day rides for $25 with a resident coupon; anyone else can ride unlimited for $40.

The festival also features 50+ arts, crafts, and goods vendors — as well as 16 food vendors. There is free parking available downtown.

Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton will headline Sunday’s main stage. There’s also a community stage featuring a variety of weekend performers.

The festival runs:
  • Friday, April 26, 5 p.m.-12 a.m.
  • Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m.-12 a.m.
  • Sunday, April 28, 12-8 p.m.
