Meet Fort Worth’s new Environmental Services Department

It may have slipped slightly under the radar during the approval of the city’s FY2024 budget a few weeks back, but Fort Worth established a new department to emphasize the city’s “So Safe, So Clean, So Green” message.

Meet the Environmental Services Department.

The new department brings the city’s Environmental Quality, Consumer Health, and Solid Waste Services divisions under one umbrella with the aim of elevating the city’s green goals and better aligning relevant projects and initiatives. It will oversee litter clean up, garbage disposal, and recycling.

Meanwhile, the Code Compliance Department — where the environmental services were previously housed — will focus squarely on its core Animal Care & Control and Code Enforcement functions.

While they may be working under different names, these departments will work together on a number of active projects and in support of crime prevention through environmental design.
