Do you have watt it takes to save energy and make money this summer?
If you can’t already feel it, July and August are the hottest months of the year in Fort Worth, and this year’s heat waves are making us sweat in more ways than one. Hello, blasting ACs and high energy bills.
Before you run to the thermostat, consider what you can do to save energy on these scorching days. Why? It’s good for the environment, and OhmConnect Energy will pay you to do it. Here’s how:
Step 1: Sign up for OhmConnect Energy
First, sign up for OhmConnect Energy — a new, innovative electricity provider with fixed, low rates and a lucrative rewards program that will help you save and make money.
Step 2: Turn on your notifications
When electricity demand in your neighborhood is spiking (read: more expensive), OhmConnect will notify you to use less energy.
Keep an eye on your phone for texts or emails from OhmConnect Energy during energy suckers like heatwaves and local events. This alert usually happens between 5-9 p.m.
Virtually manage everything from kitchen appliances to chargers on your phone or laptop with smart plugs.

Step 3: Reduce your energy use
Saving energy can be as simple as turning off your lights and unplugging the TV for just an hour a week.
Pro tip: Connect your most energy-hogging appliances (like garage fridges and air conditioners) to smart plugs and smart thermostats so they can be powered down automatically during extreme weather events without lifting a finger.
Step 4: Earn points
When members save energy, they earn Watts (read: points). OhmConnect measures how much energy you save and sells it back to the grid, passing the profit back to you through rewards. The more you save, the more you earn.
Step 5: Redeem rewards
Watts in your account? You can redeem them for rewards like cash, prizes, and gift cards from popular brands. You can even donate them to charities of your choosing. Now that’s cool.
What factor is most important to you when choosing an electricity provider?
A. Fixed/low rates B. No hidden fees C. Earning money for saving energy D. Bonus payments for new customer referrals E. Quick and straightforward sign-up process F. Renewable energy

Thanks to surprisingly cool temps, I spent Sunday morning at Marine Creek Lake with my family. We fished off the dock — and no, I didn’t catch anything.
I also took little sneak peek into the Pocket Prairie on TCC’s Northwest Campus. The site is currently swarming with butterflies and will soon be home to the Marine Creek Nature Discovery Center.
