From quick and easy loops around town to drives that take you to fantastic lakes and hills, our city has so many options to hit the trail. So lace up your hiking boots, because we’ve compiled a hiking guide for the Fort Worth area with eight routes and trails to help you plan your next adventure and experience breathtaking views.

Note: While parks and trails may be listed as open, we recommend checking park websites before visiting for further info, current trail conditions, and the safest practices for the area.

Loughridge Lake

  • Difficulty: 🥾
  • Length: 0.9 miles
  • Activities: Hiking, running, fishing, dog-walking
Located just north of the city, this short trail in Saginaw is the perfect place for a quick daily walk and is a safe choice for its visibility + popularity with dog owners. It’s also stroller-friendly.

Riverbottom Trail Loop

  • Difficulty: 🥾
  • Length: 3.9 miles
  • Activities: Hiking, running, dog-walking, bird + wildlife watching
This trail is located on Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge land — so expect a $6 entree fee, but also plenty of wildlife + a preserved ecosystem.

Eagle Mountain Lake

  • Difficulty: 🥾🥾
  • Length: 2.7-7 miles
  • Activities: Hiking, running, bird-watching — dogs not allowed
We love the beautiful lake views at this park, plus you can choose from three different trails depending on how long you want to hike. The popular, family-friendly lake is another great spot for a solo hike.

Lone Wolf Loop

  • Difficulty: 🥾🥾
  • Length: 3.6 miles
  • Activities: Hiking, running, dog-walking, mountain biking, bird + wildlife watching
If you’re looking for a moderate challenge, this route has elevation changes, plus rocks, river bends, and forest.

  • Let’s get ready to rumble — WWE fans can watch the 2023 roster draft live from Dickies Arena on May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Monday Night Raw will feature wrestling superstars including Cody Rhones, Brock Lesnar, Becky Lynch + more. Grab your tickets.

  • The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History opened a new exhibit highlighting therapy and service animals. Guests can find Summit — a Labrador retriever therapy dog — walking around the museum + a larger-than-life model of Summit in the Children’s Museum.

  • Dickies Arena is nominated for Arena of the Year by the Academy of Country Music. Since opening in 2019, the area has become an anchor for entertainment and sports in the Fort Worth community. Grab your tickets for the awards ceremony on Thursday, May 11 at The Star in Frisco.
Outdoors
  • Over the past eight weeks, the Fort Worth Zoo released 700,000+ endangered Houston toad tadpoles and eggs at a protected release site in Bastrop Country. Concert
  • Country singer Zach Bryan will headline Hwy 30 Music Fest on Friday, Oct. 20 at Texas Motor Speedway. The four-day event is expected to have 30,000-60,000 people in attendance each day. The festival kicks off Thursday, Oct. 19 + tickets are on sale now.

From popular restaurants suddenly closing to new eateries opening their doors, here’s what’s happening on the Fort Worth foodie scene.

Closed

La Onda | The Race Street seafood restaurant closed earlier this week, but the owners said it’s not the end of the road.

Thirty Eight & Vine | The Foundry District wine bar closed earlier this month + is selling its inventory.

The Beast and Company | The upscale Magnolia Avenue eatery closed on April 3 due to financial strain.

Blue Butterfly Cafe | Last month, the clean-eating cafe closed its Camp Bowie shop.

Original Mexican Eats Cafe | The Camp Bowie diner will close at the end of June and consolidate its operations at its newest restaurant The Original Del Norte.

Edelweiss German Restaurant | The German eatery in Benbrook Traffic Circle closed last month and is working on finding a new location.
