There’s nothing like the aroma of freshly-baked bread and coffee in the morning — and that’s just what you’ll get at 3rd Street Market. The highly anticipated market and bakery is now open in Sundance Square at 425 W. 3rd St. and serving up a Puerto Rican-style breakfast, pastries, fresh sourdough bread + daily soups and sandwiches Monday-Saturday.
Emphasis on local business 💼
The concept was created by husband and wife duo Trent and Dena Shaskan — the founders of Icon Bread and Mockingbird Food Company. Trent sells his bread regularly at The Table and The Clearfork Farmers Market, while Dena was formerly the chef at Café Modern and a longtime caterer.
Aside from artisan bread and signature sandwiches, the market features a grab-and-go section — inspired by The Table in the Near Southside — with charcuterie boards, olive oil, wine, produce, sweet treats from Libos Dulceria + fresh juice in recyclable glass bottles from Squoze Juicery.
When asked about the collaboration with local businesses, Trent told us that keeping the “community feel” was a big part of the market’s design inspiration. The expansive space features an open floor plan with large windows inviting guests to hang out and take in the artwork created by local artists like Gerald Bell.
Customer experience 🍽️
While guests can get an up-close experience of breadmaking at the sourdough bar, there’s also a chance to get hands-on during an in-house cooking class. Indulge — a culinary gathering space for community and food — is housed inside 3rd Street Market. It was founded by Dixya Bhattarai, co-owner of The Table, and Hao Tran of the dumpling-centric business Hao & Dixya.
The space holds weekly afternoon tea time, cooking classes for all levels, and private events. Here’s a look at some upcoming classes:

Editor’s pick: I got the opportunity to stop by 3rd Street Market during the grand opening + it might be my new favorite place to hang out. I sat at the sourdough counter and worked for a couple of hours (while simultaneously being handed bread fresh out of the oven). Best job ever.
And, as a green juice aficionado, the “Love You Too” juice from Squoze Juicery was one of the best I’ve had. Think: all the green goodness without the bitter taste.
